Fashion was never just a career path for me. It was part of my DNA.

My great-grandfather was a wool merchant, trading textiles long before fast fashion existed. My mother later worked with the Benetton brothers, surrounded by colour, creativity and the energy of global fashion. From an early age I understood that clothing is more than something we wear — it tells a story about who we are and where we come from.

That understanding shaped my life.

Before settling in Sydney, I lived and worked across Asia, Europe and South Africa. These experiences exposed me to different cultures, craftsmanship and approaches to design. Fashion became a language that connected people everywhere I went.

I worked across many parts of the industry — as a stylist, buyer and manager — including roles with Brown’s London, Oroton and David Jones. But eventually I realised something important.

I didn’t just want to work in fashion.
I wanted to create something of my own.

Starting My Label

In 2006, I launched my fashion label with a simple idea: clothing should feel as good as it looks.

I wanted to design pieces that women and men could live in — clothes that travelled easily, felt comfortable and were made to last beyond a single season.

Over the past 18 years I have dressed thousands of customers across Australia and beyond. Many have become loyal supporters who return season after season. That community has been one of the greatest privileges of building this brand.

Choosing the Harder Path

From the beginning, I made a decision that many people advised against.

I chose to keep my production in Australia.

In an industry driven by offshore manufacturing and mass production, it would have been easier — and cheaper — to follow the crowd. But I believed something different.

I believed in quality over quantity.
I believed in knowing the people who make my garments.
And I believed that Australian craftsmanship deserved to be supported.

Today every piece is proudly designed and made locally, allowing me to work closely with cutters, machinists and makers who bring each garment to life.

It’s slower fashion — but it’s fashion with integrity.

Motherhood Changed Everything

Becoming a mother brought an entirely new perspective to my work.

With two children now growing up in a rapidly changing world, sustainability is no longer a trend — it’s a responsibility.

Every fabric choice, every production decision and every design is made with the future in mind. I want the clothes I create to exist in harmony with the world my children will inherit.

Recognition Along the Way

The journey hasn’t always been easy, but it has been incredibly rewarding.

Along the way I’ve been honoured to receive industry recognition, including:

• AusMumpreneur Fashion Business Award winner
• Finalist for Sustainable Product (2022)
• Nominated for Women Changing the World in Sustainability (2023)
• Selected as one of ten Australian designers representing Australia in Hong Kong

I’ve also been fortunate to share my story through national media including Sunrise, The Today Show and A Current Affair, as well as speaking on podcasts and writing as a fashion columnist.

The Mission Today

Today my mission remains the same as the day I started.

To create clothing that empowers people to feel confident, comfortable and connected to what they wear.

Fashion should never come at the cost of people or the planet.

Every garment is a reminder that style and purpose can exist together.

And this is only the beginning.

Welcome to the world of Katie Perry.

100% Made in Australia

At Katie Perry, we believe fashion can be a force for good. Since 2006, we've been pioneering a transformative approach to clothing that honours both people and the planet. Our mission is to redefine fashion as a catalyst for positive change—creating comfortable, travel friendly  garments that tell a story of sustainability, ethical production, and genuine care.

Our Commitments

Local Craftsmanship

We are proudly Australian-made, supporting local communities and reducing our carbon footprint by manufacturing our entire collection right here at home in Sydney. Each garment represents a commitment to local jobs and world-class quality.

Environmental Stewardship

We don't just create clothing; we create environmental impact. For every piece sold, we actively contribute to global restoration—planting trees and rescuing plastic from our oceans. Our dedication goes beyond zero harm; we aim to regenerate and heal.

Sustainable Design

Quality over quantity in our world. We design timeless pieces crafted from natural, sustainable fabrics that are meant to be loved, worn, and cherished for years. Our approach challenges the disposable fashion industry, proving that style and sustainability can co-exist beautifully.

Transparent Accountability

We invite our customers to see behind the seams. Through rigorous oversight of our production processes and unwavering transparency, we demonstrate that ethical fashion is not just a marketing term, but a lived commitment.

Join us in wearing your values. Together, we can transform fashion into a powerful tool for positive change.

We carefully select our fabrics for quality, sustainability, and comfort. Most are knitted and dyed in Australia, offering soft, wrinkle-free wear with low-impact dyes.

MODAL: Made from beech tree pulp, knitted and dyed in Sydney and Melbourne. Soft, breathable, water-absorbent, eco-friendly, and biodegradable. Ideal for year-round wear and travel.

MERINO WOOL: Knitted, dyed, and finished in Melbourne. Certified non-mulesed, renewable, and machine-washable. Soft, water-absorbent, antibacterial, and biodegradable. Regulates body temperature and resists odors.

BAMBOO Fabric:

Our bamboo fabric is made using the lyocell process—a next-generation, eco-conscious method of turning plant fibre into fabric.

This is derived from sustainable bamboo plant. Bamboo plant can grow up to four feet a day, absorbs five times more carbon dioxide and requires no pesticides, no fertilisers and very little water to thrive.  Feels softer then silk .Antibacterial, UV-protectant, hypoallergenic, and biodegradable. Machine washable.

Bamboo French Terry : The inside of the fabric is crossed with loops, while the outer part is smooth and flat. The knit is extra breathable and moisture wicking.
Perfect fabric for sensitive skin.

Our Sustainable Practices

Sustainability is not a trend for us — it’s at the core of everything we do.

From the fabrics we choose to where our garments are made, every decision is guided by one simple question: How can we reduce our impact on the planet while creating beautiful clothing people love to wear?

Here is how we are working to make a difference.

Made Locally, Made Responsibly

100% of our clothing is designed and made in Australia.

By producing locally we are able to dramatically reduce shipping emissions while supporting skilled Australian makers who are paid fair wages. Our production house is located just 10 kilometres from our office, which allows us to regularly visit, collaborate closely with our makers, and maintain transparency throughout the production process.

The majority of our fabrics are knitted and dyed in Melbourne, further reducing transportation distances and supporting Australian textile manufacturing.

Local production also means we can produce in smaller, more thoughtful quantities — helping reduce overproduction and waste.

Reducing Waste Wherever Possible

Waste reduction is an ongoing focus across our entire business.

Some of the ways we minimise waste include:

• Using remnant fabrics for limited-edition collections that would otherwise end up in landfill
• Ensuring our Merino wool collection is zero waste, meaning every part of the fabric is used
• Delivering stock on recycled hangers or in cardboard boxes
• Repurposing fabric offcuts into ribbon for gift wrapping
• Designing unbranded gift boxes so they can be reused again and again

Our studio is also continually working towards becoming 100% plastic-free, reducing the use of non-recyclable materials wherever possible.

Thoughtful Packaging & Carbon Conscious Shipping

Packaging is an important part of our sustainability journey.

We ship all orders using Hero Packaging, which is compostable, and partner with Sendle, a carbon-neutral delivery service.

These choices help ensure that the environmental impact of delivering your order is kept as low as possible.

Responsible Natural Fabrics

We prioritise natural and responsibly sourced materials that are kinder to the planet.

Merino Wool

Our Merino wool is certified non-mulesed and sourced responsibly. It is knitted and dyed in Melbourne and is fully biodegradable at the end of its lifespan.

Merino wool is also a renewable fibre, making it one of the most sustainable natural fabrics available.

Bamboo

Our bamboo collections are created using remnant fabrics, giving new life to materials that would otherwise be discarded.

Bamboo is a fast-growing plant that requires minimal resources to grow and is naturally biodegradable, making it a more environmentally conscious fabric choice.

Modal

Modal is another soft, breathable natural fibre we incorporate into our collections for its durability and comfort.

Traceable, Ethical Production

Transparency in our supply chain is essential.

Because our production house is located just 10 km from our office, our founder regularly visits to oversee production and maintain close relationships with the people who make each garment.

Keeping our production in Australia ensures:

• Fair wages for workers
• Ethical working conditions
• Full traceability of our supply chain
• Lower transport emissions

Creating Positive Environmental Impact

Beyond reducing our footprint, we also aim to create a positive impact.

Through our partnership with Greenspark, every purchase contributes to initiatives that support environmental restoration and social impact, including tree planting and plastic recovery projects.

Fashion That Lasts

At its heart, our brand is about creating clothing designed to be worn and loved for years.

We believe the most sustainable garment is the one that stays in your wardrobe the longest.

By focusing on timeless design, high-quality natural fabrics, and local craftsmanship, we aim to move away from fast fashion and towards something far more meaningful.

Fashion made with care.
Fashion made locally.
Fashion made to last.

And the Outcome is in ...

Australian Designer Katie Perry Wins Landmark High Court Victory in Trade mark Battle with Global Pop Star

Sydney-based fashion designer Katie Perry, founder of the Australian-made label Katie Perry, has secured a landmark victory in the High Court of Australia, with the Court finding in her favour in a long-running trade mark dispute with international pop star Katy Perry.

The case has widely been described as a David and Goliath” battle, with a small Australian business successfully defending its intellectual property against a global celebrity brand.

This has been an incredibly long and difficult journey,” Perry said.

But today confirms what I always believed — that trade marks should protect businesses of all sizes.”

A Dispute That Began in 2009

Perry launched her fashion label in 2007, designing and manufacturing clothing in Australia under the name she was born with — Katie Perry.

Like many small business owners, she followed the recommended steps for establishing a business in Australia: obtaining an ABN, registering a business name and securing a trade mark.

In 2009, lawyers representing the American singer Katy Perry contacted Perry demanding she stop trading under her own name and withdraw her products from sale.

I had never heard of the singer when I started my label,” Perry said.

I was simply building a fashion business under the name I was born with.”

The singers team initially opposed Perrys trade mark registration, but withdrew the opposition shortly before a scheduled hearing in 2009.

Federal Court Victory

The case culminated in a Federal Court hearing in 2021, where Perry endured a brutal cross-examination.   In April 2023, the Federal Court of Australia ruled in Perrys favour, finding that various sales of merchandise by one of the singer’s associated company infringed the Australian designers registered trade mark.

The court also dismissed a cross-claim brought by the singers companies.

Shortly after the ruling, the singer chose to appeal the decision, extending what had already become a long legal battle. The singer’s appeal was successful.

High Court Decision

Following the appeal, the matter ultimately reached the High Court of Australia, the nations highest court.

For Perry, the High Court decision represents a significant achievement in the face of a dispute that has spanned more than a decade.

As a small business owner and a mother of two young children, this process has been incredibly demanding,” she said.

There were moments that were emotionally exhausting, but I believed in standing up for my business and for justice .”

Proudly Australian Made

Perry’s fashion label is 100% Australian-owned and manufactured in Sydney, focusing on sustainable fabrics and small-batch production that supports local makers.

“My business has always been about creating clothing locally and supporting Australian manufacturing,” she said.

“That’s something I am incredibly proud of.”

Standing Up for Small Business

Perry hopes the decision sends an important message about the rights of small businesses.

I always believed that trade marks exist to protect businesses — whether they are small local brands or large global companies,” she said.

This decision shows that even small Australian businesses can stand up for their rights.

Closing Statement

This case has never just been about a name,” Perry said.

It has been about protecting small business in Australia, for standing up for what is right and showing that we all matter.”
