Johnny Retro Bold & Beautiful Backyard BBQ Sauce is a full-flavoured barbecue sauce with plenty of character — rich, savoury and balanced with just enough spice to keep things interesting.

Originally developed for our Melbourne food truck, Backyard BBQ was created to complement great food rather than overpower it. It's bold enough to stand up to barbecue and grilled meats, while balanced enough to become an everyday favourite.

We wanted a barbecue sauce that delivered plenty of flavour without relying on excessive sweetness or smoke.

Backyard BBQ brings together savoury depth, balanced sweetness and a little spice kick to create a bold Australian BBQ sauce that works beautifully with everything from burgers and grilled meats to ribs, wings and pulled pork.

Born on Our Food Truck

Our sauces started life on the Maple Leaf Meats food truck in Melbourne.

When we couldn't find the sauces we wanted to serve, we started making our own. Since 2016, those recipes have been served to real customers across burgers, ribs, wings and other food truck favourites before becoming the foundation of the Johnny Retro range we manufacture today.
